Our Saturday morning Yoga class has become a weekend ritual for many in our community and that’s in large part thanks to yoga instructor Joline McGoldrick. Joline has been doing yoga since 2000. When she moved to DC for law school, a yoga studio just happened to pop up in the building next to where she lived. Since then, she’s “tried to do as much yoga a week as I possibly can.”
Joline began teaching with us in January, but she’s already made memories in the studio. “I believe anyone can learn to do arm balances and inversions,” she says. “My favorite memories so far are watching the expressions of complete surprise people have when they are able to do something they never expected they could.” She’s always exploring in her own practice as well. “I’m working a lot on building intuition and direct experience (just doing the thing without thinking about it) and I’m working on the yoga pose half flying pigeon.”
Joline grew up on Long Island with a sister and two brothers. “I’m in the middle—so I really value harmony,” she says. She credits her early education in Catholic school for keeping her grounded and humble, “but also really imbued in me a sense of the importance of service.” That includes a year-long stint living in Bolivia and working in an orphanage there.
Nowadays, she’s a partner in an early-stage startup called Truly Care, which matches care providers with people with special needs. Off the mats and outside of work, she loves coffee, all kinds of plants and flowers, and reading. Her top 3 most recent recommendations include Isola, The Wayfinder, and The North Woods.
Join Joline on Saturday mornings at 11:30.
