This month’s member spotlight shines on Allegra Jabo, a member of our Fitness Bootcamp program. We loved getting the chance to hear about her mid-day workouts, her business, and her friendships.
You are an active member of our mid-day Fitness Bootcamp. What attracted you to that program?
I decided to stop swimming as my main exercise (because of the time and cost to swim with the Masters swim team), and missed my days doing yoga at Evolve All and all the people, so I decided to try boot camp. I was afraid of it, honestly, but it has been great.
What are the benefits of a mid-day class?
For me, hands down, mid-day is the best time to exercise. I prefer to not have to get up at a certain time in the morning if I don’t have to (after years of very early rises with my kids, I just don’t want to do it any more). Dinner time or couch time in the evenings isn’t great for me either. Mid-day is perfect because it motivates me to get a lot of work done before exercising. Exercise needs to be consistent for me and there are too many obstacles in the early morning (*cough* getting up) and evening.
I consistently go to Saturday morning, too (if there isn’t an obstacle). It’s the perfect time…not too early, but not in the middle of the day on the weekend when we’re often out and about or busy around the house. For Saturdays, its 100% seeing friends that gets me there. The workout is the icing.
What’s your favorite exercise and why?
In Boot Camp? I like the one with one weight that you do a bicep curl, lift it above your head, and then do triceps with the weight behind your head. Feels like a good all over arm workout. I also really like the sledgehammer and giant tire. I like the flow of it and the power of it. But also most ab workouts.
Tell us a little about your life outside of the studio.
I work for myself at home. I own a business called The Science Seed. I hire teachers to visit preschools during and after school, elementary schools after school (K-2), do classes in community centers and camps on no-school days/spring break/summer. They use my curriculum, lesson plans and equipment. I run the business from my home office, which is what gives me ultimate flexibility to get up when I want and work out when I want!
What do you enjoy most about being a part of EvolveAll?
Hugs from Brian! But also the community. I love all of the good friends I have made and it motivates me to return every time. The people working at EA are amazing, encouraging, and so so lovely. It definitely feels like a family.
What are you excited about in 2025?
My trip to Iceland 😉 But I’m excited to just continue showing up and seeing all the friendly, welcoming faces every time. You only regret the workouts you miss.
