When you are trying to be healthy, eating out can pose a challenge. How do you know what to order or which choices on the menu would be best for your personal goals?

EvolveAll and Columbia Pike Partnership have teamed up to profile several local restaurants and ask our fitness team for recommendations on what to eat. We hope this will provide helpful guidance so that you can enjoy a night out with friends without compromising your healthy living goals.

Bangkok 54 at 2919 Columbia Pike offers authentic Thai cuisine with recipes passed down through generations. Established in 2004, Bangkok 54 delivers dishes with vibrant flavors and high-quality ingredients. The restaurant’s name derives from the lucky number 9 in Thai culture. However, using a single digit is less lucky than a pair of numbers, so the original owners went with 5 and 4.

We asked EvolveAll Youth Martial Arts Head Instructor and personal trainer Christian Mejia to make a recommendation on what to order at Bangkok 54 to support your nutrition and fitness goals. Christian is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist.

When looking at the menu, Christian “mainly stayed away from fried foods and focused on salads and grilled or steamed foods.” Fried foods can be very tasty, Christian said, “but that’s not always the best for you. I’m not saying you can’t have it if you want to lose weight as long as you are in a caloric deficit and you have eaten your healthier foods for the day.”

For starters, Christian says “Fresh Rolls are always a safe option. He also recommends the Grill Beef Salad, Green Papayas Salad, and Lemony Seafood and Green Salad. If you’re looking for a soup, the Tom Yum Soup and Tofu Soup are solid choices. For Hot Wok, Christian says you should go with the Thai-style Sweet and Sour.

For Thai classics, Christian suggest Drunken Noodles and Pad Thai Noodles. Bangkok 54 also offers a number a seafood options that are healthy choices: Spicy Catfish Curry, Steamed Whole Rockfish, and Grilled Salmon.

There are so many exciting dishes to explore at Bangkok 54!
